With Prom just around the corner and another year of high school dances coming to a close, many new memories and friends have been made. With new memories being made, it led to people revisiting old memories. There were some memories brought up often with embarrassment— memories of grade school dances.
Many students at Badin attended CYO schools, which allowed them to come to the infamous CYO dances.
Caroline Kammerer, a sophomore and former student at Sacred Heart, remembers the excitement surrounding the socials.
“At my school, the CYO socials were a big deal. People would make plans weeks in advance. They were always the social event of the season, a highlight of my junior high career,” said Kammerer.
The dances always seemed to be shrouded with awkwardness, as sophomore Samantha Cohen remembers.
“CYO dances were so awkward because there were people from other schools and the parents would watch you dance from the outside,” said Cohen.
Sophomore Kennedy Jarvis agreed, saying, “They were so awkward. The dancing part was just weird.”
There were some embarrassing but good memories from these socials, as Kammerer remembers.
“One memorable moment of mine was in the 7th grade. I was dancing with a boy I had a crush on and someone took a picture and sent it to my mom. She posted it on her Facebook for ALL friends and family to see. Every so often that photo resurfaces and all I can think of is the CYO glory days.”
Even though there were some good memories, all three have come to a consensus of favoring high school dances.
“Everyone knows each other a lot more and it isn’t as awkward. High school dances have been much better than my previous dances,” said Kammerer.
