CTE Teacher Credentialing & Availability
In order to be considered a CTE Pathway and be eligible for Perkins and CTEIG grant funding, courses must be taught by a teacher with the appropriate CTE Credential.
Essential Element of High-Quality CTE:
Skilled Instruction and Educational Leadership, informed by Professional Learning, is the cornerstone of the public education system in California. The educational experience is only as strong as the capacity and investment made in faculty, educational leaders, and the other key field talent to provide in-class, online, or work-based learning opportunities as well as developing an awareness of student support services. California encourages the culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism in program instruction and design that leads to student success.
Essential Elements: CDE Guiding Policy Principles to Support Student-Centered K-14+ Pathways
To ensure that this element is being met, rubrics and self assessments have been created for the Perkins (pg. 8) and CTEIG (pg. 26-27) grants with the following basic criteria:
All CTE pathway teachers have the correct clear CTE Designated Subjects credential or one of the five appropriate Single Subject credentials including Agriculture, Business, Home Economics, Industrial Arts, Industrial Technology Education; and/or an authorization with significant industry experience.
All CTE teachers have completed specific CTE professional development relevant to their pathway during each of the past three years.
