Career Exploration and Student Supports: Part of establishing a learning plan for all students, including identifying appropriate foundational courses (i.e., using competency-based learning) and information about jobs, determining student progression in a single pathway or along multiple pathways or sequences of learning, or making available in-class and online course offerings and work-based learning opportunities. Students should also have access to comprehensive counseling, individualized supports along their journey (including, but not limited to, for students who are part-time, face barriers to learning, need academic or cultural supports, transportation, child care, or financial aid), or opportunities through student leadership development organizations to achieve their individual goals and aspirations, through a variety of transitions, in an ever-changing workforce.

This standard provides students with insights that will guide their college and career choices. Early exposure (junior high or earlier) to career exploration opportunities can increase completion rates in CTE pathways. To ensure that this element is being met, rubrics and self assessments have been created for the Perkins (pg. 3) and CTEIG (pg. 6) grants with the following basic criteria:
Perkins
Students are counseled regarding:
CTE career opportunities.
CTE and academic courses necessary to complete career pathway offerings.
Post-secondary education and training options (see Early College Credit).
All students have a completed a four year career plan that is updated annually.
CTEIG
All CTE pathway students participate in a formalized career exploration program.
All CTE students have an individualized four-year plan on file.
CTE students receive career guidance through programs of study, CTE specific counseling services, and formalized industry mentoring (see Student- Centered Supports).
