Guided Pathways is used by community colleges to forge clear paths for students and remove systemic obstacles to their success. High schools create opportunities for students through CTE Pathways developed using the 12 Essential Elements of a High-Quality College and Career Pathways.
Advance Equity: Removing barriers that today’s students face, particularly students of color, first-generation students, students from low-income backgrounds, and working adults.
Transform Institutions: A highly structured, comprehensive approach to systemic change to improve students’ attainment of skills, credentials, and socioeconomic mobility. It is founded on the principle that everything can and should change.
Redefine Readiness: Fundamentally shifting the conversation about what it means to put students first, encouraging colleges to focus on their readiness for students rather than students’ readiness for college.
Redesign Supports: Recognizing that students need more than financial support and resources to be successful. It allows colleges to recognize and holistically support students’ academic and non-academic needs.
Focus on a Student-Centered Delivery of Services for all K–14+ college and career pathways, which accommodates multiple entry points to facilitate students’ needs to build their skills as they progress along a continuum of education and training, or advance in a sector-specific occupation or industry.
Promote Equity and Access by eliminating institutional barriers and achievement gaps for all students to realize their educational and career aspirations.
Achieve System Alignment in the economic regions of the state in order to create a comprehensive and well-defined system of articulation of high quality K–14+ pathway courses (i.e., both in-person and online) and work-based learning opportunities with a specific emphasis on career technical education (CTE). Bring greater coherence to programming, common use of terminology, appropriate data collection and sharing, and attainment of student outcomes in a timely way that lead to upward mobility in California’s industry sectors. System alignment allows for greater student portability and career advancement.
Support the Continuous Improvement and Capacity Building at all levels and components to ensure smooth transitions in the system and focus efforts on implementation of state standards, attainment of student outcomes, and a strengthening of California’s regional economies.
Ensure that State Priorities and Direction Lead the State Plan with opportunities in Perkins leveraged to assist in accomplishing the State goals and objectives for student achievement, also known as “the California Way.”
In this website, we have attempted to align the Guided Pathways (CC) and 12 Elements (K12) frameworks to allow for stronger, more equity focused Career and Technical Education pathways that seamlessly guide students from K-12 education to Post Secondary education and beyond.
To develop strong partnerships, recognizing the alignment between them will support the development of programs that meets the needs of students and the requirements of both systems.
