All Axtell I.S.D. parents have the right to choose online learning for their child due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If the parents of a student with a disability choose online learning for their student, the student will continue to receive all services, as outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) throughout the duration of their online learning time. Arrangements for Speech Therapy and related services will be made with parents and will be individualized based on student/family needs in regards to the method of delivery of service(s). Accommodations/Modifications typically provided within the classroom will be provided through virtual learning platforms as well.
Parents of students with disabilities choosing online learning should contact Lacy Hollingsworth at the Axtell I.S.D. Special Education Office at (254) 863-5301 ext 352 with any programming questions or to arrange for the delivery of therapies and related services.
ARD Meetings continue to follow the same requirements as they have in years past. Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, ARD meetings will be held virtually via Google Meet. If you are unable to access Google Meet, contact DeAnn Engholm, Diagnostician, at 254-863-5301 ext 352 or via e-mail at dengholm@axtellisd.net to discuss attendance options.
Any required testing for special education services and/or dyslexia that must be conducted for a student participating in virtual learning will be done by appointment. Contact DeAnn Engholm, Diagnostician, at (254) 863-5301 ext 352 to discuss/schedule testing.
Axtell I.S.D. utilizes an online program, Lexia, for the provision of dyslexia services to qualifying students. This program may be accessed from home via any device with internet access. The school will provide you with log-in information for your student with dyslexia.
Gifted/Talented Students whose parents choose online learning will continue to be served throughout the duration of their online learning time. The G/T coordinators for each campus will work in correlation with your child's teacher(s) to ensure that appropriate activities are provided.
