Welcome to the Avalon Ultimate General information page. Specific registration information can be found in each team's respective subpage:
Financial Aid
MN Ultimate has a direct financial aid application that can be found here.
In addition, check out these other wonderful financial aid programs!
Every Kid Sports
Every Kid Sports is an organization that will pay recreation league fees for qualified kids age 4 to 18. The league must be at least 4 weeks in duration. The Pass provides funding to children from income-restricted families to pay sport registration fees. Qualified families can receive funding to pay sports fees for kids. For more information visit Every Kid Sports website.
Play It Forward
We have lots of programs to help grow the sport with some aimed at underserved communities. Play It Forward is one such program that seeks to remove some of the financial barriers to playing ultimate.
We will likely not conduct a parent meeting this year. However, the information below is updated and has lots of great info!
If you have any questions regarding any information contained in those documents or anything on this site, please email chris@avalonschool.org.
Thank you!
The first couple of things you should know is that ultimate is "self-officiated." This means a couple of things: 1. Players must understand the rules in order to make proper calls! 2. All players must recognize that every other player is there to have fun, so calling rules fairly (not simply to your own advantage) is what keeps the game fun!
Check out "Ultimate in 10 Simple Rules"
And probably more helpful is this Youtube series called Ultimate 101
Here is a lovely instructional guide for some basic ultimate skills

Most ultimate players will wear cleats. There are ultimate-specific cleats, but those are usually expensive and difficult to find. I personally wear soccer cleats as they are designed for the type of running that occurs in ultimate. Wide receiver football cleats for grass would work as well.
Athletic clothing is also very helpful. Something that allows for movement and is not too baggy (baggy clothing interferes with throwing and catching). You do not have to wear spandex, but large baggy sweatshirts are not recommended.
Avalon is also seeking applicants for the high school and middle school coach positions for Ultimate Frisbee. If you are interested, please see the details in the job descriptions below. If you know somebody who would be a great fit, please pass the information along!
Email questions and resumes to Chris (chris@avalonschool.org).
Chaperones Needed
Each team (high school and middle school) requires multiple adults who have had background checks and safesport training at the field anytime the team is gathered. I am asking for a few adults to volunteer their time to be chaperones. Let me know if you are interested. A background check and short training are required. NO ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED!
The first step is to register as a chaperone on the Minneosta Ultimate Website (just like you're a player, but select "chaperone" under "roles).
Sign up through Minnesota Ultimate and be sure to complete the following items:
NCSI- Please have all Team Admin, Coaches and Chaperones click the link to complete a background check. If a background check was received during the 2023 calendar year till current, They Do NOT have to complete a new one.
Mandatory CDC Concussion Training -
CDC Training- Please have all Team Admin, Coaches and Chaperones click the link to complete a CDC training course. This should only take 30 mins. Once your CDC training has been completed please attached your certificate to the following link: CDC Certificate Form

Summer Pickup Opportunities
If you are going to a pickup game, you should traditionally bring a white jersey or shirt and a dark jersey or shirt. Avoid "in between" colors like light blue or half white and black shirts, etc. Also bring cleats, water, and a snack! You'll probably join in and out just like others do, and you'll play with a variety of different skill sets, and you'll probably learn a TON!
