AdvanceD Placement (AP)

22-23

General Information

The 2023 Advanced Placement (AP) Exams will be administered in schools as paper-and-pencil* exams over two weeks in May: May 1–5 and May 8–12.

Please visit the College Board website for the May 2023 AP Exam Schedule.

AP Testing is Optional to take. Per the College Board, AP courses offer the opportunity to study a subject in-depth at the college level. This better prepares students for college work. If the student receives a high enough score on an AP Exam, the student may be eligible for credit, advanced placement, or both at most colleges and universities in the United States.

Cypress High School students who wish to take AP exams at their high school must register to take the exam(s) by the district-wide AP Registration & Fees Payment Deadline of November 4, 2022.

The College Board has set the national deadline for ordering all AP exams by November 10, 2022. In order for the AP Coordinators to complete the process for ordering all AP exams by this national deadline, the district needs to finalize all registrations and fees from students by November 4, 2022. However, students and families still have options if the AP Registration deadline is missed.

As such, students who are enrolled in a yearlong AP class at Cypress will not be allowed to take the test for that AP course at Cypress if they are not registered for that exam by November 10.

AP exam registrations that are not paid for (or have no payment arrangements made) by the exam order deadline date of November 10, 2022, will be canceled and exams will not be ordered.

  • Students must bring their school picture ID cards, two #2 pencils, pens, erasers, and calculators (if applicable – see AP® Security Rules for approved types) with fresh batteries to the AP® test room. Without picture ID a student WILL NOT be admitted. CELL PHONES, BACKPACKS, PURSES OR BAGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN TESTING CENTERS. We recommend those are left at home, in your locker or in your vehicle.

  • Students must adhere to the Test Site Regulations for the duration of the exam period. Consequences include removal from exam and cancellation of scores. See Test Site Regulations for specific details.

  • College Board regulations hold that students may not take both the AP® Calculus AB and BC exams in the same calendar year. College Board is extremely strict regarding qualifying for rescheduling an AP® exam to the Late Testing (make-up) window. In addition, the reason for requesting late testing must also meet the AUHSD School Board Approved regulations for excused absences. In conjunction with College Board regulations, CHS approved reasons to reschedule an exam include: extreme illness (hospitalization or medical care, a doctor’s note will be required), bereavement, court appearance, conflict with another AP® exam, or a school sponsored sport or academic event. Additional fees may apply and documentation may be required. Students are NOT eligible for Late Testing for reasons such as: family trips, conflict with an in-class exam/activity, or having selected the incorrect AP® exam subject when you submitted your order.

Dropping an AP Exam(s)

AP exams will be ordered at the end of October 2022. Any student who drops their exam after October 31st will have a $40 cancelation fee. If a student knows that they will not be taking the exam in a course they should not sign-up for the exam or cancel the exam before October 31st. If a student joined their class with the teachers join code and they do not want to take the exam in May they need to contact Mr. Tenorio before October 31st to drop the exam and avoid the cancellation fee.
