According to an article on worldpopulationreview.com, the population of Taiwan in 2019 is estimated to be about 23.76 million. New Taipei is the most popular city with 3, 970, 790 people. The capital, Taipei City, has about 2, 704, 974 people which makes it the country’s fourth largest city.Kaohsiung City and Taichung City are the second and third largest city respectively. About 12-.88% of the population are between the ages of 15 and 24 years. Though this is not an encouraging number since a significant portion of Chipotle’s consumers are college students, 25-54% of the population are 46.41%. This means that are large number of the country’s population are the working force which reflects that almost 50% of the people have a buying power. This opens an opportunity for businesses to increase revenue. It is for this reason we are opening Chipotle in Taiwan.

The country’s official language is Mandarin and is spoken by almost every Taiwanese. A few people speak aboriginal languages while many older Taiwanese people speak Japanese.

The Han Chinese ethnic group make about 98% of the population. The remaining two percent are Taiwanese Aborigines. This opens an opportunity for restaurants to increase sales. It is for this reason we are opening Chipotle in Taiwan; to have an established market before there is this complete shift.

Geography

Taiwan has a geographical area of 36,193 square kilometers. Having a population of 23.76 million, it’s density is about 656 people per square kilometer. Thus, it is the 17th most populated country in the world. As expected, population density in cities is much higher. For example, Taipei has roughly about 10,000 people living in every square kilometer.

In addition, Taiwan has about 42000 km of road. Majority of this is along the western coastal lowlands and around the hilly areas. Taipei is amongst the areas with a significant part of it covered by road. Rail is also a form of land transportation found in Taiwan. Though it covers only 1180 km, which is a small distance as compared against many developed countries, it connects distant places. Thus, people travelling long distances prefer to use the rail.

For sea transportation, Taiwan has 7 ports. One of these is located in the capital. Taipei also has an airport but its airport is not the busiest amongst the 17 in the country. The main entrance to Taiwan is the Taoyun International Airport. Of all the 17 airports, seven are located in the major cities of Taiwan; Taipei, Taoyun, Taichung, Tainan, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Hengchun, Hualien and Taitung.
