Module 1
Import and Edit Media
Import and Edit Media
There are two different places you can make edits media in DaVinci Resolve:
Think of the Source Viewer as the place where you can examine a piece of media, potentially making edits to the length of each clip, before committing to using it in your project
In contrast, the Timeline is the interface where the storyboard is built, transitions are made between clips, music and special effects are added.
Edit Media in the Source Viewer
The clips below demonstrate the process of trimming a specific portion of media using the Mark In and Mark Out options before moving the edited media into the Timeline. This is a convenient way to make non-destructive edits to a piece of media, i.e., cutting out sections of media that you don’t need without actually deleting them permanently.
Use this method to select the portions of your talking-head raw video where you feel you performed the best. For example, maybe there was one attempt where you used just the right words at the beginning, and a different attempt where you knocked it out of the park with your closing remarks. You can extract those different sections and combine them later!
Edit Media in the Timeline
The following very short clips show you how to complete a variety of ways to edit in the Timeline.
Remember, the Timeline is where you start building your project’s story. As such, you should start to see your introduction video taking shape as you complete each step.
