Below are examples that stem from the four projects developed through the original course. These examples specifically focus on promoting the use of reusable cups at a convenience store in the student union on campus.
To prepare for the design stage, each group filled out an intervention web to identify some of the key elements required for an effective behavior change intervention. This was an iterative and collaborative process in which students brainstormed ideas and received input from project partners and stakeholders to refine the details of their intervention.
The image to the right provides an example of a first draft in this process, while the Intervention Web is explored in greater detail in the Activities section of this module.
Building an intervention based on theory helps to support methods and expected outcomes. In this example, the group mapped the exhibited problem behaviors/perceptions and identified ways to address those barriers. The group followed the approach of the “Theory of Planned Behavior”.
