Activity Summary
In this section you will learn how to upload your video assets to DaVinci Resolve 12. We will cover various steps on how to accomplish this task. In order to begin the editing process, it is imperative to thoroughly review this step.
The first step to editing your video is uploading the video assets.
Once you have opened DaVinci Resolve, click on ‘New Project’ in the bottom right-hand corner and name your project. For a course introduction, include the subject and course number (e.g. "LDT 501") followed by "course intro video". For a unit introduction, since you may be producing several videos, be sure to name it with the subject, course number and unit number as well (e.g. "LDT 501 Unit 3 intro video"). Then click ‘Create’. At the bottom of your new project window, click the ‘Edit’ button.
To import your video files, click on the ‘Media Pool’ tab in the top left so that it is highlighted in white. This ensures the workspace is properly set up for importing and editing.
Highlighted 'Media Pool' tab
Now right click within the ‘Media Pool’ section and select ‘Import media’ from the drop-down menu. Select the needed video files, including the bumper video file and your talking head video file, and click open.
A dialog box may appear asking if you want to “change project frame rate”; click “Change”. You will now see the two videos in the media pool. Once your media pool looks like this, you may progress to the next step.
At this stage, you should have two videos in your media pool
