All students are asked to submit course evaluations at the end of each session. Students and faculty receive email messages notifying them when evaluations are ready to be accessed. Please remind your students during the last week of classes to fill out the evaluation. The Department encourages analysis and use of student feedback to improve curriculum and instruction in online courses.
You can review your course evaluation results through MyASU once all final grades in the Department have been posted.
While your Canvas course calculates and displays final averages to students, all final grades must be submitted via the official grade roster accessed through My ASU by midnight on the date specified on the ASU Academic Calendar. Please be sure to manually enter a Zero for all missing student assignments in the Canvas gradebook for accurate grade calculations.
Timely submission of final grades is a very important step for completing your obligations as a course instructor. Grades must be submitted on time in order to be included in end-of-the-semester processing, which includes calculations for eAdvisor, Dean's List recognition, academic standing, probation, ineligible status, and disqualification. Failure to submit grades on time may result in your students missing an opportunity for academic recognition, or being inappropriately placed on probation, etc.
Detailed instructions for submitting final grades, including a helpful job aid, can be found here:
Grading Information for Faculty and Staff
All final grades are submitted as letter grades. You will notice the option of EN and EU on your grade roster. Assign an EN to students who never participated in the course (failed because they never participated). Assign an EU to students who started participating but at some point stopped and did not officially withdraw (failed because they stopped participating). These grade distinctions are important for federal student aid administration.
If you have additional questions about grade options and grading policies at ASU, please refer to Grades and Grading Policies.
Exporting Grades from Canvas to the Grade Roster
Grades can be exported from your Canvas course directly into your grade roster using the "Export Final Grades To PeopleSoft" function in your course's main menu. You will still need to review and manually submit your grades in your MyASU grade roster once your review is complete.
To access your Grade Roster, select the drop down menu in the tool icons next to your class name in your My Classes schedule in MyASU as shown.
If you have not exported your grades, enter them into the roster.
Change your Approval Status from Not Reviewed to Complete and then select Post.
To verify your grades have actually been posted note that the Not all grades posted message next to Grade Roster will change to All Grades Posted. You may have to log out and back into MyASU to verify the change.
The Department of English works in conjunction with the University Office of Evaluation and Educational Effectiveness to assess student performance on specific learning outcomes for each of its programs. Depending on the course you are teaching, you may be asked to submit assessment data for your courses at the time you submit final grades to conclude your obligations for a course. If you are teaching a course from which the Department gathers assessment data, you will be contacted by the Director of Online Programs or your Program Director during the semester with additional information, instructions, and deadlines for submitting any requested data.
