If you are new to teaching ASU Online classes, the online team will provide you with a copy of your class in Canvas about 6 weeks prior to the start of a session. You will receive a series of emails with information on things such as adopting and accessing course materials, class set up, and important contacts for questions and help. See the information below to verify you can access your Canvas class.
At least two weeks prior to your class's start date, verify that you can log on to My ASU and access your Canvas class via the "My Classes" area. If you do not have access or if you experience any problems, please contact the Director of Online Programs Kathleen.Hicks@asu.edu.
Occasionally, you may see your class listed twice with two different section line numbers in your "My Classes" area. This happens in instances where ASU Online students (O course) and ASU campus students (I course) are both enrolled in your ASU Online course. Both populations of students will be enrolled into your single ASU Online Canvas shell. It is important to check your rosters at the beginning of the semester to verify that all of your students have been successfully enrolled in your Canvas shell. If some of your students are missing, please reach out to Kathleen.Hicks@asu.edu as soon as possible.
Please note you will have two separate final grade rosters to submit.
If you have not already, verify that you can send/receive email from your ASU email account. This is a critical step as students will email with questions and it is essential you be able to receive and respond to their questions.
NOTE: Once you are hired, the university and university personnel will send all correspondence to your ASU email address. This applies to students as well—all correspondence should be sent to their official ASU email address only.
In most circumstances, a Canvas course shell will be requested for those who are new to teaching ASU Online courses. If you regularly teach ASU Online courses, have been granted the go ahead to request your own course, and know the source code for the course you wish to copy, you can request a course copy using ASU Online's request form here:
ASU Online Course Request Form
Note: ASU Online courses should only be requested using this form and not through the course request mechanism in MyASU. That will ensure ASU Online specific templates and tools will be applied to your class section.
