Abstract
Our device will make patient mobility much more attainable, and reduce the amount of false alarms in the hospital setting. Many false alarms are due to a patient accidentally moving and disconnecting a lead, which can cause extra work for hospital staff. This device will also enable patients to be more mobile, and allow a patient to be more independent. The device will be a retrofitted hospital gown with the ECG sensors integrated into the gown. The prototyping and testing of this device was broken up into three distinct subsystems: electronics, sensors, and the garment. The electronics subsystem which is built around the ADS1293 integrated chip from Texas Instruments is being developed and preliminarily tested as a bread boarded system with only a single input to verify the chip works as intended. The sensing subsystem of this device is made up of a series of active capacitive sensing electrodes that do not require direct contact with the patient. Finally, the garment subsystem is the aspect of the device that ties everything together. It is the chassis onto which the rest of the subsystems will be integrated onto and will be the primary means to ensure proper placement of sensors to maintain clinically significant readings from the patient. Testing and final development of each of these subsystems are still ongoing.
