Abstract
The SMART Cochlear Filter is a software platform for the advanced filtering of sounds through pre-existing devices, which works in tandem with a dynamic cell phone application. Together, these tools aim to give patients more control over what they hear through their cochlear implants without sacrificing the safety and accuracy of a traditional audiologist setup. This caters to the over six hundred thousand cochlear implant patients currently struggling with control over their hearing, and aims to progressively target their needs for years to come. The software behind the SMART Cochlear Filter was developed using in-house MATLAB simulation and open-source app development tools which allowed significant freedom during the platform’s testing. User-feedback driven AI was developed as a part of the software platform and validated using the virtual prototyping means established through MATLAB. The final product development outcome was validated to demonstrate a dynamic platform for the smart processing of cochlear device sound.
