IB Diploma Programme
Grades 11 and 12
Grades 11 and 12
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an externally examined 2-year course of study. Click here for more detailed information on the IB Diploma at ASM.
Students must study one course from each of the six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level.
1. Studies in Language and Literature
2. Language Acquisition
3. Individuals and Societies
4. Sciences
5. Mathematics
6. The Arts
Provisions in the program can be made in accordance with particular needs: students may choose additional subjects from Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 in lieu of a Group 6 subject; students may take the trans-disciplinary Group 3-4 Environmental Systems and Societies permitting further flexibility in the program.
In addition, all full IB Diploma candidates must fulfill three core requirements: Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and CAS - this is known as the IB DP Core
Students not wishing to pursue the full IBDP may select individual IB courses within their US High School Diploma. These are officially known as “Diploma Programme (DP) Courses” and are recognized internationally. In fact, given our offerings in Grade 11 and 12, the majority of courses studied by US students in these grades are IB courses, resulting in all ASM US students having an IB learning experience.
A student with an IB Diploma has access to national university systems worldwide. For specific details of equivalence between the IBDP and different countries' national qualifications, click here.
