PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH INTRODUCTION
The ASM Physical Education/Health Program is designed to reinforce the importance of achieving and maintaining a healthy productive lifestyle. The Upper School Program places major emphasis on life skills needed for lifelong fitness and staying fit.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH – YEAR 1
In 9th-Grade Physical Education and Health, students engage in a balanced curriculum of team and individual sports, fitness, lifetime activities, and wellness education.
PE & Fitness Activities can include: Flag football, soccer, tchoukball, volleyball, softball, track and field, pickleball, table tennis, ultimate Frisbee, floor/field hockey, speedball, badminton, rhythms/dance, and acrosport.
Health Units: Healthy Behaviors for Upper School, Healthy Eating, and Communicating for Healthy Relationships.
In 9th grade, students choose between Regular PE and Non-Competitive PE, allowing them to select the environment and intensity level that best aligns with their personal interests and abilities. While each option features activities tailored to its specific format, student feedback from annual surveys helps guide course offerings. Regardless of the chosen path, all students work on personal fitness, participate in the same health workshops, and gain exposure to many of the same core activities.
