Background & Purpose
Afterschool labs were initially designed to provide students with additional support outside the regular class time. Over time, the structure and purpose of the labs have evolved organically. Additionally, the introduction of the labs pre-dated the new Upper School Schedule, which has the benefit of providing time for additional support through MP time and, in the case of 11th & 12th graders, Study Halls/ Drop Blocks. Teachers not at scheduled meetings or ASAs should be available to students for after-school help between 4 p.m. and 4.45 p.m.
When Labs become the first “go to” of students for additional support, they become overpopulated, and students do not get the targeted support they require at a particular time. Therefore, the structure and process below are designed to prevent this issue.
