Mr. Nathan Tilkes
WElcome to 5th Grade!
Who Am I?
Hello, I am Nathan, and I am in my 6th year of teaching. Previously I have taught sixth grade in Kent, Washington in the United States, and I also taught Social Studies for a year in Rochester, Minnesota and middle school social in Recife Brazil. I grew up in the frigid cold near Rochester, Minnesota, and received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. During my summers, I have previously worked at a summer camp in New Hampshire, which inspired me to go back to school to become a teacher, at which point I went back to earn my Master's Degree from Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota. During my free time, I enjoy staying active by working out, hiking, camping, and somewhat recently I have started to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!
What Will You Learn in ELA?
In English Language Arts, we will be focus on reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. While two of my main goals are to increase speaking fluency and reading comprehension, it is also important for me to create engaging lessons that inspire 5th graders to get excited about learning, actively participate, and most importantly, to fall in love with reading!
