Textbooks and some school supplies are included in tuition. Students are expected to supply personal items such as pens, notebooks and pencils as outlined on their grade’s supply list. Teachers may occasionally require students to bring special supplies for specific projects.
The school supply list is updated annually and communicated to parents.
Calculators
Students in grades 8-11 are required to have a TI-Nspire CX Graphing Calculator. We strongly recommend that this be purchased at cost from the ASA - through the business office. This is the CX version of the TINspire, NOT the CAS version. The CAS version is not permitted on external assessments. Please do not try to purchase this on your own as you may get the incorrect model, and other models will not meet our requirements. However, should you opt to purchase independently, this link shows the correct model that will be required.
Laptops
Students in grades 6-12 are required to bring a laptop to school. For High School students, this can be a Mac or PC (Windows) laptop. Recommended specifications: Max. 3 years old, 8GB RAM, Core i5 processor or equivalent. Software up-to-date, including anti-virus software. Microsoft Office is useful, but not actually required, since students have access to Google Apps.
For grade 6-8 students, since the bulk of the work takes place in the Google environment, student laptops do not need to be high-end machines. Any Windows or Mac laptop will work, as will Chromebooks. It should have a physical keyboard, and the battery needs to last 4 hours (we have some charging capacity in classrooms, but not for all students at the same time). Anti-virus software should be installed and up-to-date.
iPads and other tablets are not suitable for secondary students, even if they have a keyboard, as we regularly use software and apps that do not work well on them.
Physical and Health Education
Students must have athletic shoes for physical education. Students in grades 3-12 must also wear an ASA PE shirt (available at reception). For hygiene purposes, Secondary students are asked to change after PHE.
