Welcome to the Outdoor Lead Climbing (in Dutch: Voorklimmen) Singlepitch course of the ASAC. During this course, you will learn about the technical and safety aspects of outdoor lead climbing on single-pitch routes in well-bolted areas.
At the ASAC you can follow the OVS course in several ways: through indoor practice evenings and outdoor practice during (regular) ASAC weekends, or by taking the full course, which consists of one practice session (morning or evening) and two weekends, including a final assessment.

Understand the risks associated with outdoor climbing.
Gain knowledge of and experience with personal climbing equipment.
Gain knowledge of and experience with climbing areas and route setups.
Be able to climb safely and belay on single-pitch routes.
Master several techniques, including:
Proper use of knots
Setting up a top rope
Cleaning routes in various situations
Abseiling
You will need the following at the start of the course:
Climbing harness and climbing shoes
Belay device suitable for two rope strands
3 locking carabiners, at least 1 of which must be a safebiner
Prusik cord, 5–6 mm thick, 1 meter long
Sling, 120 cm in length, preferably a Dyneema sling (approximately 8 mm thick)
Personal anchor system, various options are possible
At least 6 quickdraws (together with your climbing partner, this will give you 12)
Additional gear you will need for independent outdoor climbing:
Climbing helmet (can be borrowed from ASAC)
Climbing rope (ropes are provided by the ASAC during the course)
