Term 1 Reading

In term one (September 2023), students are allowed to read the genre of their choice. They are NOT allowed to read books that are television shows or movies. They are not allowed to reread books that they have already read.  If the student or the parents are unsure of the book, it is best to ask me. Each student must read 600 pages. This can be broken into as many books as the student wishes.

Students must write a one sentence summary on a Post-it-Note for each chapter (If the chapters are smaller than 20 pages, students should write ONE Post-it-Note for every 20 pages.

After every book the student reads, they must give an oral book report to me,  Ms. Rakers, or to  Ms. Carr.

The student MUST have the book/device and their Reading Log with them when they give the oral report.

At Midterm, the Book Report grade will be calculated so that the real end of term grade is reflected. This is so that each student knows how much work they still must complete in the 5 weeks after the midterm grade. LAST DAY FOR BOOK REPORTS IS November             UNKNOWN as of yet.

Parents/Guardians: The Mid-term Book Report Grade is a "Work-in-Progress" grade. Students have ten weeks to read their total amount of pages. This grade is NOT how well they did giving their report; it reflects the number of pages completed at Mid-term, divided by the total they they owe for the term.

At Mid-term they need to know what progress they have made and what they need to finish.

If they read and give their reports, this grade will only go up as the term ends. The students know this information.

What will we talk about at a book report conference?
