Authorization

Adding an Authorization

It is possible to add an authorization to a credential to increase your ability to teach at different levels or settings.

For additional information on adding authorizations, you can visit the CTC website on Supplementary and Subject Matter Authorizations or contact your Credential Analyst.

General Education: Added Authorizations

Introductory Supplementary Authorizations

An introductory supplementary authorization added to a Multiple Subject teaching credential authorizes the holder to teach departmentalized classes related to the supplementary subject in grades 9 and below.

Introductory supplementary authorizations may be added to the Single Subject Teaching Credentials and authorize the holder to teach the supplementary subject matter content typically included in curriculum guidelines and textbooks for study in grades 9 and below. This allows an employer to assign a teacher with an introductory supplementary authorization to teach a class in which the curriculum is for grades 9 and below but the students in the class may be in grades 10-12.

An applicant who holds a preliminary or clear Multiple or Single Subject Teaching Credential may request the introductory supplementary authorization at the time of their initial credential application or may request it at any time during the life of the credential by submitting an application form (41- 4), appropriate fee, and official transcripts.

Specific Subject Matter Authorizations

The Specific Subject Matter Authorization added to the Single Subject teaching credential authorizes the holder to teach the specific subject in grades preschool, kindergarten-12, and classes organized primarily for adults.

Special Education: Added Authorizations

The Department of Kinesiology offers an Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization

The APE Added Authorization authorizes the holder to conduct Educational Assessments related to a student's progress towards meeting instructional physical education goals, and to provide instruction and Special Education Support to students with special needs who are precluded from participation in the activities of the general physical education program. The APE Added Authorization also authorizes the holder to teach a specially designed physical education program in a special class, from birth through age 22, including preschool, and in classes organized primarily for adults.
