APS Student Engagement Seal

The APS Student Engagement Seal is one of three local seals designed by Akron Public Schools. APS believes meaningful curricular/extracurricular activities help develop a well-rounded student who is more engaged in the school community.

Student Engagement connects students to the community of learners, educators, mentors, and coaches in a positive way.

Graduates must complete two units of engagement. A unit may be a semester, a year, or a season as determined by the program advisor. Students may mix and match two different engagement activities or use the same activity as long as they satisfactorily complete the two units. For example, a student who participates in chess for two consecutive school years would be able to meet the Student Engagement Seal requirement.

To earn the Student Engagement Seal, students must:

  1. Document all evidence of participation on the APS Student Engagement Documentation Form (make copy).

    • Participation must be validated by the teacher, program advisor, or coach.

  2. Complete the two Board-approved curricular/extracurricular units from the time they enter high school until May 1 of their graduating year.

Pre-approved Student Engagement activities may include, but are not limited to*:

  • Senior Capstone

  • OHSAA Athletics and Cheerleading

  • Student Leadership Opportunity (Student Council, Ambassadors, Student Board Members, Class Officers, etc.)

  • Clubs (Chess, Coding, STEM, Poetry, Intramurals, eSports, Robotics, Engineering, Academic Challenge, Diversity & Inclusion, Key Club, Rotary Club, Newspaper, Yearbook, National Honor Society)

  • Vex Robotics & Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)

  • Science Fair/Science Olympiad

*Engagement units beyond the pre-approved list above must be approved by the district's designated Community Service Advisor.
