This seal addresses the needs of an increasingly diverse student population and rapidly changing economy. Specifically, promotion of culturally aware citizens who will productively contribute to society, engage in democracy, and value diversity.

To earn this seal, students must do demonstrate at least one of the following:
Earn Proficient or higher on the American History and American Government OST; or
Earn Proficient or higher on an Advanced Placement (AP) United States History and US Government and Politics tests; or
Earn Proficient or higher on an International Baccalaureate (IB) History - Route Two - and Global Politics; or
Earn a B or higher in any 3-hour approved College Credit Plus (CCP) course.
Earn a B or higher in the year-long high school American Government course.
Note: Akron Public Schools offers opportunities for all students to take the ACT and Social Studies OSTs. Additionally, all students may enroll in AP, IB and CCP courses. High School counselors can assist students with these options.
There are no forms or documentation needed from the student to complete this seal. APS will automatically credit students who meet the criteria. Additionally, students may choose to mix and match the demonstrations to meet the criteria. Students who take advantage of CCP, IB, or AP qualifying courses and grades do not need to take the related OST.
