Standard 5

Standard 5 - Leaders ensure that all stakeholders have ongoing opportunities to access information and learn about STEAM implementation.

All stakeholders have ongoing opportunities to access our STEAM implementation information through our Warren T Jackson website, STEAM website, and social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). With support of our PTO, we hold grade level STEAM Fathers and Friends morning activities which encourage the male role models in our children's lives to learn about the STEAM implementation and complete a STEAM challenge to see their child's learning. In addition to school engagement events, parents are also invited to attend the sharing of our inquiry at the end of extended inquiry units. This gives students the opportunity to practice effectively sharing their ideas as well as receive constructive feedback.

As an International Baccalaureate PYP school, we have student portfolios that show student learning and reflections at the end of each of our six IB PYP units of study. The student portfolios provide a student-created visual for stakeholders to see and strengthened from the child's kindergarten year to present. Since STEAM implementation, the portfolios exhibit how our school's STEAM principles and strengths have impacted the students learning in the units of study. Also, we have implemented STEAM inquiry journals which show the students' thinking process throughout the interdisciplinary units of study and project based learning. Both of these documents help parents see their child's learning over time.
