Mini-Exhibition

Come Join Us!

On Friday, May 17th, 4th grade with celebrate their mini-exhibition! We focused on the Global Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation on a local and global level. We can't wait to share our exhibition with you!

Driving Question: How do we improve the water quality in our community?

Using the Engineering Design Process to guide inquiry, students inquired how we can directly improve the water quality in our community. As our school-wide focus, these students were able to combine the key tenants of International Baccalaureate PYP and STEAM learning. In 5th grade, students will work in groups to culminate their learning at an IB-PYP and STEAM school through their own exhibition focusing on the United Nation's Global Goals. Through a partnership with Kennesaw State University's iTeach, we collaborated to create a mini-exhibition!

ASK

Students visited Atlanta Water Treatment plant at Hemphill understand the water treatment process.

IMAGINE

Using the key concepts as a guide, students inquired and researched on water quality in Atlanta and globally.  In the process, students learned about the water cycle other 4th grade science standards. In groups, students shared out their research in order to brainstorm ideas for possible action!

PLAN

Students collaborated within their classroom to synthesize their research and determine next steps to take action in our community. As students learned about ecosystems and structure of the government, we are able to apply what we are learning in class to enhance our mini-exhibition.

CREATE

Student groups took action in several different methods. Some groups worked with the Chastain Park Conservancy to pick up trash around the Nancy Creek. Other groups worked to create public service announcements on the importance of protecting our waterways!

Improve

Upon data collection of the trash, recyclables, and paper, students reflected on how they could have improved their trash pick up. In addition, throughout the process students worked to improve exhibition and the methods in which to share what they experienced.
