Where We Are in Place & Time

Central  Idea: Properties and patterns are defined through exploration

Driving Question: How can we share with younger students about a planet  in our solar system?

2nd grade students will expand upon our IB Unit Where We Are in Place & Time and learn more about how we explore space through the eyes of astronomers. Students have the opportunity to research current planets, stars, and other celestial objects in our solar systems. Next, students are challenged to create an exhibit for Fernbank Museum of Natural History on a current planet or a planet with similar properties and patterned after a current planet.

How the World Works

Central Idea: Changes can be found in people and the natural world.

Driving Question: How can you, as engineers, create a transport prototype to carry water that changes form?

2nd grade students are able to learn about how people affect change and see changes in the natural world. Students learn about the attributes of matter, how matter changes, how structures are built from smaller pieces, social movements impact attitudes and beliefs.  Students are presented  with creating a transport to carry water that changes form.
