Extended Inquiry is unique to Warren T. Jackson. Inquiry based learning and teaching is used to ignite students' curiosity and creativity. As we implemented project-based learning, we discovered it was helpful to have a specific time each week to get messy, add an extra set of hands, and provide this enriching opportunity to our students.
Once a week, third through fifth grade has a 45 minute- 1 hour block where a STEAM teacher and classroom teacher use our science and technology labs to facilitate an extended inquiry. During this time, students are able to expand upon the project-based learning that is going on throughout the week, expand on the science and social studies curriculum they are working on currently and create projects and experiments that otherwise a general classroom cannot facilitate. All extended inquiry correlates and enhances our IB-PYP units of study in every grade level.
