Standard 11

Standard 11 - STEAM learning experiences integrate all STEAM disciplines with an emphasis on processes and practices associated with STEAM.

Warren T. Jackson focuses on supporting students in generalizing knowledge and skills by creating meaningful connections between experiences and content disciplines. Through our protected extended inquiry time for all students each week, students are able to dive deep into the processes and practices within STEAM. During this time, our art and music teacher are also able to collaborate and assist when needed in the students’ project-based learning. By using inquiry journals throughout the IB units of study and extended inquiry time, students acknowledge and visually see the Engineering Design Process and the emphasis on student-led inquiry.

Within our school initiative to student knowledge of cold water trout conservation, students are continuously looking for ways to improve water quality in our area. With state standards leading the way, students work with partners to investigate the water quality in our area, how we as a school can conserve and improve our water supply, and firsthand work to improve the trout population in the nearby Chattahoochee River.

Even when school went virtual in March, we continued to provide our students with at home extended inquiry and STEAM challenges. The pictures below are examples of STEAM learning and inquiry that continued even as we navigated an unknown and ever changing school experience!
