STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. All young people should be prepared to think deeply and become innovators of the future. In 2021, Warren T Jackson Elementary became the 2nd school in the nation to be certified as both Cognia STEM and International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme! We value preparing our students for the future.
We learn through hands-on, student-driven inquiry. Using the Engineering Design Process, our students ask questions, explore ideas, and collaborate to solve real-world local and global issues in their lives today. STEAM enhances our International Baccalaureate PYP program by emphasizing critical components of the IB program–integration across the curriculum, project-based inquiry, local and global awareness, and a positive learning attitude.
W T Jackson Elementary has our Schoolwide Project Based Learning focus on Water and Natural Conservancy. As such, we raise a few thousand trout eggs to fish fry (young fish) and release them into the Chattahoochee River twice a year. Currently, we are developing student driven solutions to reducing the Trout program's environmental footprint through water capturing systems and water filtration.
