Unit overview
NGSS Standards: MS-ESS2-4, MS-ESS2-5, MS-ESS2-6, MS-ESS3-2, MS-PS4-2
Unit Overview: This unit explores the phenomenon of La Niña and El Niño patterns and their impact on New Mexico's climate and drought conditions. Students will investigate the water cycle, air masses, ocean currents, and thermal energy transfer to understand how these factors contribute to regional climates and drought prediction.
Use this CALENDAR to write in your agenda each MONDAY!!!
Do Now (page 62): Draw an OCEAN on the bottom right corner and LABEL the state of matter the water is in when it's in the ocean!
Activities for the day (INB page 62)
Musical Diagrams: We will work together to add components and labels to our water cycle diagrams. If you're at home, use the Quizziz to create your diagram, then check it with us tomorrow (you can look at my INB example if you need to!)
EXIT TICKET (Your table must show me this before you can get your table's TASK CARD to get backpacks): On the whiteboard at your table, fill in the blanks for this sentence: "The energy that drives evaporation comes from the ___________, and the force that makes condensed water fall is called _________________.
Do Now (page 63): LABEL the top of page 63 "SUNLIGHT + CLIMATE". Complete this sentence: "The climate is __________________ along the equator, and ____________________ as you get closer to the poles."
Activities for the day (p. 63):
Work with your group to follow the directions in the handout. WRITE your DATA on page 63 (the ANGLE of the light and the SURFACE AREA the light covered)!!!
Do Now (page 63): Use yesterday's data on page 63 to complete this sentence: "As the ANGLE of the paper DECREASED, the INTENSITY of light _________________________."
Activities for the day:
Complete answers using yesterday's lab data:
d. The total amount of energy produced by the flashlight _______________________.
e. If the same amount of energy spreads out over a LARGER surface area, then the intensity of the light energy _________________.
LATITUDE for Independent Project
a. Find out the LATITUDE where your chosen city is on Earth. Write the LATITUDE, then write 1-2 sentences explaining whether it should be warm, medium or cold there. Then explain WHY that is, using what we learned today.
EXIT TICKET (Your table must show me this before you can get your table's TASK CARD to get backpacks): On the whiteboard at your table, choose the correct words to complete this sentence, then write it at the bottom of your page 63: "The sun's energy is [more/less] intense at the equator because of the [angle/distance] of the Earth's surface as sunlight hits it."
Do Now (page 64): Create a Notice/Wonder Chart on page 64. TITLE it "Why is the Equator Hotter?"
Activities for the day:
Watch the video assigned in Google Classroom using HEADPHONES, and fill in your NOTICE/WONDER chart as you watch. Answer the questions in the video as you work, and add any NOTICES or WONDERS as you go!
LATITUDE for Independent Project - if you did not do this yesterday, complete it today (my example so far is below): Find out the LATITUDE where your chosen city is on Earth. Write the LATITUDE, then write 1-2 sentences explaining whether it should be warm, medium or cold there. Then explain WHY that is, using what we learned today.
Research answers to your wonders on your N/W chart!!! Write them below the wonders!
EXIT TICKET (Your table must show me this before you can get your table's TASK CARD to get backpacks): On the whiteboard at your table, choose the correct words to complete this sentence, then write it at the bottom of your page 63: "The sun's energy is [more/less] intense at the equator because ..."
Do Now (p. 28): Check your grades for week 5 of Quarter 4 and write them on page 28 in your agenda. Then LIST anything you need to retake or redo or turn for this SATURDAY in your agenda.
Activities for the day
LN-SMT1: Take the Quizziz Standard Mastery Ticket for this week. You can take it as MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT until you get the grade you want.
LN-LR3-1: Add a photo from this week to your Science Portfolio website. Then write 3 sentences about what we learned, including a definition for at least one vocabulary word. Remember, I add an example in the assignment in Google Classroom!
EXIT TICKET: Agenda complete for the whole week - CHECK OFF OR CROSS OUT today's assignment if you completed it.
