Unit overview
NGSS Standards: MS-PS4-1, MS-PS4-2, MS-LS1-1, MS-LS1-2, MS-LS1-3, MS-LS1-8
Unit Overview: This unit explores how the body responds to disease by investigating cells, sound waves, and the interconnectedness of body systems. Students will analyze the phenomenon of measles in New Mexico to generate investigative questions, design experiments, build models, and explore relevant careers.
Use this CALENDAR to write in your agenda each MONDAY!!!
Do Now (p.56): Do you need to revise or retake anything before WEDNESDAY?! Make a LIST if so! If not, start looking at the Independent Project assignment and choose what you want to MAKE or DO for your project!
Activities for the day
Revise or Retake anything (WEDNESDAY is the last day to turn in late work for this quarter).
Complete the Ear Attack Independent Project RUBRIC to plan your project for this unit (EVERYONE will need to do a project this time)! You can work with a partner who does NOT sit at your table, or you can work on your own.
EXIT TICKET: Agenda complete for the whole week - CHECK OFF OR CROSS OUT today's assignment if you completed it (see example).
Do Now (WORD CLOUD link here): Write ONE WORD that you are interested in learning more about in this unit. Think about what we've experienced so far: measles outbreaks, hearing loss from a disease, cells as the basic unit of life, bacteria and viruses, what makes something living, and how sound works. What is ONE WORD you wonder about after learning what we have so far?
Activities for the day
Complete the Ear Attack Independent Project RUBRIC (it is in Google Classroom and has YOUR NAME on it) to plan your project for this unit (EVERYONE will need to do a project this time)! You can work with a partner who does NOT sit at your table, or you can work on your own.
Choose a PROJECT you want to make to SHOW US what you found in your research (the choices are in GC in the assignment in a separate Google Doc).
Start RESEARCHING the answer to a question you have about MEASLES, DISEASES, CELLS, HEARING or HEARING LOSS, or VACCINES. TYPE what you find in your science portfolio website under the "Independent Projects" page, in the "Ear Attack" section.
WHEN YOU FINISH YOUR RESEARCH, you can show me in order to get permission to start making your project. If you work at home, you can move ahead, but please make sure you do the research FIRST!!!
EXIT TICKET: Agenda complete for the whole week - CHECK OFF OR CROSS OUT today's assignment if you completed it.
