Welcome to Distance Learning in West Haven Public Schools
Science Distance Learning:
Students should be engaged virtually with the teachers every time the class meets. Teachers in the Science Department are either teaching virtually or uploading prerecorded video lesson using Zoom, Google Meet, Screencastify and/or other resources. The lesson and activities will take the 80 minutes assigned to each class. As the Science Department has many diverse classes, teachers will be uploading assignments onto Google Classroom specific to the course that your student is enrolled in. Progress will be monitored daily by teachers and used to account for attendance.
Assignments:
Students can expect the following assignments to be completed:
Reading assignments
Reading assignments will include, but not be limited to, current event articles, POGILS, Data Nuggets and much more. Reading assignments will have questions to be answered after reading and taking notes.
Video resources
Often the reading assignments will include YouTube links and other video resources to help demonstrate the content discussed in
reading assignments and/or to accompany online labs
Virtual Labs
Students will be given websites that will allow them to participate in virtual labs. They will be required to reflect on what they do in Claim/Evidence/Reasoning reports, reflections, lab reports or through essay questions.
Projects
Students will be assigned projects over extended periods of time. These projects will include power points, essays and much more.
Projects will be content specific to each course.
