Hi K-2 families!

I know I always say this, and have said this throughout these couple of months, but I feel like you should keep hearing it! I am proud of you! I am proud of you for your good behavior at home, for minding your parents and helping around the house, and for showing kindness to others at home and from a distance. You have risen to the occasion, and really have shown not only to your families and to the world how great kids are and how resilient they are but also what you all can accomplish!

Always remember, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! Know you can be anything and do anything you put your mind to. Also remember, always be KIND. To EVERYONE. Keep being you. The world will always need your brightness in this world. Keep shining bright, and always be the best you, you can be!! Love to you all!

Hi K-2 Families! Happy Friday!!

You all are doing great!! You should all feel very proud!! Did you ever think, when we started distance learning in March that you would make it as far as you did?! Did you ever think you would be spreading kindness and reaching so many people right there inside your home? Did you ever think you were going to master being focused, creating a home schedule, and being great students all from the computer? Did you ever think you would learn how to do chores and become independent kids as much as you did in the last couple of months! You can do anything you put your mind to and I think all of us have risen to the occasion of superstar!!

Today, I want you to stand in front of a mirror and read these out loud to yourself, stand in front of a family member and let them be your mirror-read these great statements and watch them smile and agree you are all of these, or have a family member read these to you out loud! Know it! and Feel it inside! You are all of these and you have been accomplishing all these great things!! AMAZING!!!

Happy Friday K-2 Families!

We got to an end of another week of distance learning. A few more weeks, and we will be on summer break. It is so easy to not work as hard. It is so easy to put our guard down and want to go see our friends and do all the fun things we would do previous to this year. But we can't, not yet. We are still moving forward to the finish line. We need to continue to work; continue to finish our online classes; continue to interact with our teachers; help out at home; be kind to our family members; be thankful for all that we have; and continue to follow the rules that are given to us to continue to stay safe and healthy during this time. We can't give up! And we won't! Hang in there! You are doing great!!! 😊Feel proud!

Sesame Street: Bruno Mars: Don't Give Up

Hi K-2 Families!

The sun is certainly shining this week, so we should take advantage of it and get outdoors! Feel the spring sun on our faces, listen to the birds in your neighborhood and just enjoy the moments of nature and fresh air! We still may have to stay a distance from our friends still, but with parental permission, we can still be able to get fresh air with your family. It will help us focus better and get back inside to get our work done! Take a walk with your family, have a nature scavenger hunt and see if you or your family can find some cool things like a heart shaped rock, a four leaf clover, or maybe a bird feather left on the ground. The small things not only make us feel refreshed to be able to carry on the rest of our day, but it also makes us thankful for this beautiful world, and our family who surrounds us everyday during the tough days!

Today, I want to start everyone's morning with a smile! A smile is so easy and so important and yet so easy to do! By just looking at someone and smiling you can turn a person's whole day around without even knowing it! So today, let's smile! Smile at our family, smile out the window to our helpful community members like delivery people, postal workers, or sanitation workers. Smile at someone jogging by! It makes us feel good and makes others feel good! So today, let's smile!! :)

Welcome to another week of distance learning! I don't know about you, but I am starting to have a difficult time sitting in my chair and getting my work done. We are at the final stretch of academic work, but the sun is shining and I am starting to feel the summer air come our way! However, we got to get that work done! I like to pace out my work. I try to have some fun, either dancing or working out, then I get work done, then I do some focusing activities or move my body and then get more work done, then repeat.

Check out my video, this may be something fun you can do in between online class work! Let's focus, and get our work done, at the end of the day we will be so proud of ourselves for being productive and completing all of our assignments! :)

Hi K-2 families!

I don't know about you but this distance learning on the computer is so hard sometimes! It's difficult sitting at my computer chair all day trying to have a connection with you all, but sometimes nothing compares or replaces human connection and just seeing all of your smiling faces! But we are all doing great! Whether we have bad moments/days at home or really great productive ones, we are moving forward and getting through all of this!

This morning, I felt like I needed to get out of my chair and move! Have fun, move my body, and work up a sweat before starting my work! Join me! This is a great song and fun dance moves!! Lets all start our day dancing, smiling, singing, and having a good time! And then back to work we go! :)

Since we are celebrating friendship this week, I thought there wouldn't be any better way than to make friendship bracelets for our special friends! You can make them out of anything: string, yarn, cord, etc. I made mine out of paper!

Your special friends could be your family! Make them for your brothers, sisters, moms, dads, grandparents, whoever you may live with! Or you can make your special bracelets and save them for when we are together again and give them to your special friends when it is safe for us to come back to school!

Hi K-2 Families!! Hope you are feeling refreshed and ready to start another productive week together!

First, I would like to start off by sharing another amazing "I'm Unique" puzzle piece creation! Thank you Trinity T. I am so proud of you! And I love your drawings! Great job!

Today, I would like to talk with you about grief (feelings of sadness and loss), about school closing for the rest of the year, all the fun activities and end of year celebrations we may be missing because of this and how we can cope with it in a healthy way! It's ok to have feelings like this.

This feeling and circumstance are not forever, we will be back together making new fun and happy memories. Today, if you can, I would love for you to draw a happy memory you had at school with your friends and send it to me, I would love to share!

Tip of the week: Give your child (and yourself) permission to grieve

In a time when many people are facing different types of health challenges, you or your child may feel silly or even guilty for being upset about missing an event. However, Kimberly Williams, LCSW, clinical social worker at Children's Health says it's important to acknowledge your feelings – and allow yourself to feel them. "Everyone's loss is significant, and there is no one right way to grieve," she says. "We're experiencing all sorts of changes to our day-to-day lives, and that is difficult."

Let your child know it's okay and normal to be upset about missing school, their friends and events they have long anticipated. While it's helpful to make sure your child understands why these events were canceled and the importance of social distancing, it does not mean they cannot feel disappointed. Avoid making any predictions or immediately rescheduling plans to avoid further disappointment.

Williams also encourages parents to check in with themselves frequently and to practice self-care, since children often take their emotional cues from caregivers. "As a parent, it is crucial you are in touch with how you feel and express your emotions appropriately, so children feel permission to experience loss in their own appropriate ways," she says.

We have been so busy thanking our community helpers for all that they are doing for us during this time! They are keeping us safe and happy and trying every way possible to help in any way they can!

But today, I want to talk about you. You all are everyday heroes! Our everyday life changed so quickly but you all are at home, following the rules, being kind to your family, and making the most of these unsure times. That is a hero! A hero is resilient, is positive, is kind, and most importantly tries their best everyday no matter how they are feeling! You are nothing less than amazing to me!

Please keep trying your best, please keep finishing all your class work that your teacher is assigning you, please be kind and patient with your family members, you have gotten so far and we have to keep trying! We will be together soon, but until then continue to be everyday heroes!

Today's student shout-out goes to Gabrielle W.! She created an awesome homemade pinata on Cinco de Mayo and had a great time with her family! I am so proud of you Gabrielle!! Keep up the great work!!

Also today, since we watched a great story about being unique yesterday, and drew some beautiful puzzle pieces filled with favorite things of yours, I thought we would take a fun spin on it!

Today, if you can, get your family together and enjoy singing Karaoke style to an awesome song about being yourself, being unique! Make some instruments out of things laying around, grab a spoon and aluminum foil and make a microphone, turn up the song and sing loudly about how special you are!

Hi K-2 Families!!

I hope you had some fun yesterday with your homemade pinatas!

Today we are going to talk about how we are special and unique! We are all different, which makes each one of us really amazing and so cool! And we are like pieces to a puzzle. If one of us was missing our puzzle would be incomplete. All of us have amazing things to accomplish in the future, and you are actually accomplishing some amazing things now. Being kind and helping out at home, saying thank yous to our community members with our simple gestures of hearts and rainbows, making kindness rocks, doing your best at distance learning!

Today we are going to listen to a great book "You're Here for a Reason" and then we are going to draw a large puzzle piece on a piece of paper and inside the puzzle piece use your favorite colors and draw some of your favorite things. This puzzle should represent you!!

I would love to see your unique creations!!! Even though we are apart, when we are all together we fit like one large beautiful puzzle! Miss you all! Have a great day!

Hope your weekend was a nice one! Today we are going to start our own Kindness Rock Project!! If you can, go outside with your family and find some different size shape rocks (on the small side, enough you can carry in one hand) and bring them in and paint or color them with bright colors or kind sayings! Display them in your home! When we do come together and we are back at Mackrille School, bring your rocks in and I will put them in our courtyard at school to share with other students and our Mackrille staff and community! Always spread kindness!!

Happy Friday to my K-2 families!!!

Today, as we leave this school week, I want all of us to think about one simple gesture...kindness. One of the most important gestures we can ever show to our family and friends and to the world. You all know that at school, I tell all of you the importance of kindness and try to role model this every day! Especially during these unsure times, we all need to smile, we all need to feel special, and we all need to feel loved. After several weeks at home, it could be very easy to get upset with our family members, and easy to not follow all of our chores right now because we might be feeling frustrated, down, or just bored. But this is exactly the time we need to reach from within to do something kind for our family right now! We need to be kind to everyone, all of the time no matter how we are feeling. For instance...

Getting up early and helping your parent/guardian with the morning chores
Reach out and call a family member or friend that may be alone during this time and check in on them and say hi!
Getting yourself breakfast or preparing for the day by getting your school items and turning on the computer on your own and being ready for the day's assignments without your parent/guardian asking/begging for you to do your work
Remaining quiet, and finding something to do while your parent/guardian is on the phone or working from home.
Inviting your sibling to play with some of your favorite toys.
Letting your sibling or parent/guardian decide what to watch on TV.
Make a beautiful picture for your family.
Ask how they are doing

The list of simple gestures could go on and on....

Over the weekend and throughout next week I would love for you to practice kindness in your home and share it with me!

Today's activity is making easy homemade masks! During this time, masks always are helpful to wear if we have to go out during this time to a store or somewhere that there may be a gathering of people. With a mask it helps to keep you and your family safe! It is fun to make, keeps you safe, and it will make you look cool too while using them appropriately!!

Good morning families!!

I hope everyone enjoyed yesterday's video clip about being brave and how there are so many brave people in this world who are so helpful to us and take care of us! How can we thank them? What can we do put a smile on their face?

Right now, children all over the world are thanking the brave community members and bringing them love and hope with one simple gesture. Drawing and coloring pictures of rainbows and hearts and putting them on their windows and doors!

So, today let's all join them! Today I would like you to draw a picture of a heart and rainbow and put them in your windows at home or on your doors! Take a picture and send them to me, I would love to share your beautiful creations on our distant learning site!

This morning, my family drew hearts and rainbows and put them in our windows to put a smile to all the brave people out there right now: postal workers, doctors, nurses, delivery people etc.

Some of us may be feeling bored at times being at home and not being able to go anywhere right now! But we have to stay healthy and safe! And we can still be productive (doing all our online work, setting goals, and making a schedule for ourselves to follow each day) kind and caring (picking up your toys, cleaning your room, wash the dishes) and having fun ( playing outside, board games, dance parties)!

I don't know about all of you, but since we all work so hard during the week, by the time Thursday comes, I need to move a little in order to finish up my work for the end of the week!!

With this fun activity, play your favorite music and move your bodies!

This is a fun way to get some exercise in, in the comforts of your own home or outside too!
