Bailey Social Studies-

Grade 7 and Grade 8

Teachers in Grade 7 and Grade 8 Social Studies classrooms will use Google Classroom to deliver lessons to their students during distance learning times. Additional software programs and platforms are listed on CLEVER.

Lessons are created following the curriculum for each grade level.

Students in Grade 7 are currently studying the continent of Africa until January 2021. They are guided by an inquiry based study, that has its basis on this foundational question, " How does where we live impact how we live?"

The quest to answer this question for the Africa unit and the subsequent units of Latin America and Europe allow students to gain both the foundational knowledge necessary along with enrichment opportunities for success.

Students in Grade 8 are currently finishing up a critical look at the causes of the American Revolution and the development of the Declaration of Independence. They will proceed to examining the need for a Constitution for the newly freed United States of America. Through the use of inquiry based learning using primary documents, students will apply what they learn to current events in an effort to determine how the Constitution affects our lives today.

Grade 8 United States History will build on this foundation as they discuss Westward Expansion and Civil War as the school year progresses. These units will have students using close reading strategies with primary source documents well as inquiry based questions.
