Math:

Overview of a typical daily lesson:

DMR - Daily Math Review - review skills from previous grades and/or units

CORE Lesson - Teacher taught, 15 to 20 minutes

Independent Work - Students independently work on the skill taught

Exit Slip - quick assessment to check for mastery of the skill taught

Homework - Reinforcement of skill taught

Every morning, each math class will complete part of the Daily Math Review (DMR) sheet. They are given 4 questions to complete daily as morning work. The questions are to help them review skills from previous grades and/or completed units. The teacher will go over the questions with each class. This is a quick assessment of what skills need remediation or extension. After the DMR, teachers will teach a 15 to 20 minute core math lesson and then assign practice to show application of that skill. The class will end with an exit slip to quickly assess for mastery of the skill taught. Homework is given most nights to reinforce the skill.

The 6th grade math classes will finish Unit 2 - Ratios and Rates on January 8, 2021. In this unit, students learned about rates, unit rates, ratios, and percent. As of January 11, 2021, the math classes will start Unit 3 - Expressions and Equations. In this unit, students will learn about variables, inequalities, order of operations, solving for the variable, and evaluate expressions. This unit ends on March 11, 2021. Like the other two units, this unit consists of a predetermined number of FA’s, a Performance Task, and Flipbooks.
