Hello, Pre-K and Kindergarten! It’s our final week of school!! Can you believe it? Give yourself a pat on the back because you have been awesome! I can’t wait to see you again next school year! We’re going to have lots of fun this week, so enjoy our final week of music activities!

Our final Sing along with Caitie and Tobee is about five little speckled frogs! You might see frogs swimming around ponds or lakes this summer!

Let’s review yesterday’s song about the five speckled frogs and see how some new instruments can be added while telling the story! One instrument will be familiar: the xylophone. Can you catch the names of the other two?

Perhaps you might go camping this summer with your family! Here is a camping song called I Love the Mountains

Join along with the Learning Station as they sing a song about swimming at the swimming pool!

It’s time to celebrate the start of summer!! Dance along and try all of the different animal dance moves!

Have a wonderful summer! I can’t wait to see you next school year! If you find yourself looking for something to do over the summer, feel free to explore any of the music lessons and activities that were posted here on this page for you and pick your favorite ones!

Let’s review what we have learned about rhythm this year with the next two activities! This first video reviews some different rhythm notes! (Including a new one for you! Whee!)

This next video reviews rests! (The rhythm notes that tell us to be silent)

Let’s review singing high and low! Can you match the pitches in this music show episode? We spent time together working hard to try and match pitch singing together for most of the year, so lets see if you can join in with the song!

Let’s try the Sol Mi and the Sol Mi La challenges again! They are such fun, I’d love to finish up the year with one more time playing them!

It’s the last day of the year! Celebrate by dancing along with Kidz Bop! I asked students what their favorite happy song was, and Dance Monkey was the top answer from a lot of kids!

Pre-K and K:

Happy Monday everyone! This week is a shorter week because we have a district wide Field Day on Friday! Wow! You get TWO field days???? Lucky you! Have fun on Friday playing all sorts of games outside!

Our Caitie and Tobee song today is all about the Muffin Man! Have you been baking more at home with your family? I have! I haven’t tried muffins yet, but I’ve made lots of cookies! Maybe I’ll try to make some muffins this week.

Our book for the week is called Allegro, and it follows a young boy who is reluctant to practice the piano as he goes on a fantastic journey through is imagination while listening to classical music! You will hear short examples of 11 wonderful pieces of famous classical music!

Yesterday’s lesson was about a little boy finding his love for classical music and practicing the piano to become a great pianist. Today I would like to share with you a video that highlights different kids playing the piano! Many of these children have sat down at a piano that is out in public and are playing for whoever happens to be walking by. It takes a lot of time and practice to become a skilled pianist, so these kids have worked hard!

Let’s end our short week with a fun music lesson that invites you to join in and move with the music, learn about different music notes, and finally jam along with some pots and pans for drums at the end. Get out a metal bowl or a pot with an adult’s permission and look for a wooden spoon to use as a drum stick for the final song in this video!

Pre-K and K:

Happy Monday, Pre-K and Kindergarten! Welcome to a new week of music activities! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We have some really fun activities lined up for the week and I hope you enjoy doing them!

Let’s join Tobee and Caitie for a rainy day music activity! Caitie will show how to make a rain stick at home! If you would like to try to make one yourself, ask an adult to watch with you and see if the materials needed are available at home! You will need: a cardboard tube from a paper towel roll, construction paper, aluminum foil, scissors, tape, rubber bands, and rice. It’s okay if you don’t have the materials to make a rainstick right now, but if you enjoyed the project, maybe it can be something to try in the future! You can then join Caitie and Tobee as they sing Rain, Rain, Go Away.

Last week, we learned about music from Mexico! Today, let’s have another lesson by KAIA Kids that is all about Brazil! They will teach you how to make the sound of rain to join them for a song today. If you made a rainstick yesterday you can use it today when it’s time to create rain sounds!

A group of performers (many of which are children!!) perform a flash mob of Brazilian music in a shopping center in London! Many are playing instruments also found in an orchestra! How many can you name?

This week’s story book is all about the chain of events that inspired a little girl to become a musician and a composer. It’s a wonderful story!

Let’s finish the week with a fun dance along! Happy Friday! From the same channel that brought you Baby Shark, Pinkfong has 25 minutes of dance-along songs! You can join for all of them if you want to really work out your dancing feet, or you can just pick and choose a few and then take a break. Have fun!

1st and 2nd Grade

Happy Monday, 1st and 2nd graders! Welcome to a new week of music activities! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We have some really fun activities lined up for the week and I hope you enjoy doing them!

Let’s start with a rhythm reading challenge! Last week was Star Wars day on May 4th and I missed it! Oh no! Did anyone watch Star Wars movies last week?? I did! This rhythm reading challenge is a little different, because it makes you read the rhythm patterns as they move away from you like the words that scroll across the screen at the start of every Star Wars movie! Let’s see if you can read the rhythms as they move away from you! You will hear four steady beats each time a new rhythm appears. See if you can read the rhythm after the four beats are played!

Want some more practice? Here’s another short clip to challenge you!

Pre-K and K:

Happy Monday, Pre-K and Kindergarten! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! This week we have a lot of really fun music lessons planned, especially because Tuesday is Cinco de Mayo!! Let’s learn about this holiday that celebrates Mexican heritage and an important day in Mexico’s history. We will also learn about some of the instruments used in Mariachi music! Lots to do, so let’s get started!

Let’s begin by exploring some music from Mexico! Join KAIA Kids Around the World, a string quartet (meaning four string instrument) as they teach a group of children about Mariachi and teach the children a song called ‘México lindo y querido.’

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Join Max as he celebrates the day with his friend, José!

Let’s learn some more about the Mariachi instruments! This video shows you instruments played by high school aged students! It has a little listening quiz at the end and if you want to give it a try, go for it! Don’t worry if you aren’t able to name the instruments right away though, it moves along a little quickly.

I’d like to share some examples of Mexican folk dances with you! The first is to the song La Cucaracha -

The second is to the song Jarabe Tapatió Please take note of the beautiful clothing worn especially in the second video!

Let’s end our week by watching two young performers singing in the style of Mariachi! First is a little boy who is only four years old!

Second is a girl who is 13 years old and auditioning for America’s Got Talent! Wow!

Pre-K and K:

Hello again, Pre-K and Kindergarten! I hope that you are all happy and well! I have some fun activities gathered for you this week and I hope you give them all a try!

  1. Let’s say hello again to Caitie! This week’s song is called Here is the Beehive. Spring has sprung and soon the spring time bugs will come out to enjoy the warmer weather! I wonder how long it will be before the bumble bees come out searching for pollen from the flowers? Listen to Caitie sing one time through so that you can get comfortable with the song. Then listen a second time and try to join along! Practice making a good strong ‘BZZZZZ’ing sound! When the bees fly out of the bee hive, pretend to be a bee flying and buzzing around. When the bees go up high, buzz on your tip-toes! When the bees go down low, buzz and crouch down to the ground. Try to match the bees in the song with your own bodies and have fun!

Last week, we learned about Louis Armstrong and scat singing. Let’s learn this week about a famous Jazz singer named Ella Fitzgerald. I LOVE to listen to her sing! She was famous for her smooth, beautiful voice and her ability to make the most difficult scat singing sound easy. Let’s hear a story about how she grew up and became famous!

Yesterday we learned about Ella Fitzgerald. Today, let’s take some time to listen to her singing some of her most famous hits. Pay special attention to when she scat sings- when she makes up words and sounds that can sound like a jazz instrument with her voice.

Join the Learning Station for a music lesson today!

Let’s end the week with the Hokey Pokey!

1st and 2nd Grade

Hello again, 1st and 2nd Grade! I hope that you are all happy and well! I have some fun activities gathered for you this week and I hope you give them all a try!

Let’s return to chrome music lab today! Today I am going to send you to a sound experiment called Kadinsky. Every shape, scribble, or line you draw will turn into a sound. Some shapes make certain sounds! (Can you find the shapes that turn into faces?) Have fun! Experiment with layering shapes on top of each other! Click on the colored dot and select two new colors to see what that does to the sounds!

Pre-K and K:

Welcome back Pre-K and Kindergarten! I hope you had a wonderful April Vacation! I really enjoyed the beautiful weather in my backyard and even got to see some new green buds on the trees! That’s my favorite part of Spring- the fresh green buds of leaves coming to the trees. What’s your favorite part?

Let’s start our week by singing along with baby shark and friends! My daughter Adelaide fell in love with her baby shark hide and seek book and baby shark is now her new favorite song. Maybe you don’t want to listen to the usual baby shark song, though! Here are a few new ones you might not have heard yet!

We were learning about Scat singing and Jazz music before school closed. Our last week of music online lessons included listening to a song sung by a famous Jazz musician named Louis Armstrong! Today, let’s listen to a story about learning how to scat sing with Louis. Enjoy!

Did you figure out what instrument Louis Armstrong played? He played a trumpet, also sometimes called a horn! Here’s a fun repetitive I Spy song for instruments. Listen, and see if you can join in with the names of the instruments as they are added on!

Remember how I said Baby Shark is Adelaide’s new favorite thing? Let’s join Caitie and sing along with a different melody for our familiar words and motions for the song. Can you join in with the new melody as she introduces each shark? Give it a try!

Let’s have some silly fun for Friday! Move your body along with this fun family!

Usually we start our music classes by singing hello to each other, stretching our bodies and then singing some Sol Mi patterns with our hand signs. Let’s stretch our bodies today and then sing some patterns! Follow along with the first video first, and then move on to Sol Mi La Challenge. You did the Sol Mi challenge last music week, so let’s make it a little bit trickier!

Let’s start with stretching. Show your family members how you stretch your body for music and maybe they can even join you! Reach your hands up towards the ceiling and stretch as far as you can go with your feet flat on the floor. Stretch your hands over your head one way….and then the other way. Stretch down to your toes and see if you can touch your toes. Stand back up slowly and then roll your shoulders. Take a few slow, deep breaths like we have practiced together in class. Now you’re ready to sing some Sol/Mi patterns!

Pre-K and K:

  1. Let’s sing another song with Caitie! Today Caitie has a song about riding her bicycle. Can you ride a bike? Listen a first time and watch where she goes and see if you can start to sing along! Then, ask an adult to help you find something you can bang together to make sound. Maybe it’s a pot and a wooden spoon, maybe it’s two wooden spoons you can clack together, maybe you even have a drum at home that you can tap with your hand! Watch the video again and try to play on your home instrument to match Caitie as she rides her bicycle! Sometimes she gets slower and sometimes she goes faster, so do your best to follow along!

3. Remember how you found an instrument to play at home yesterday? Try to find a new way to make sound with the help of an adult! Then, play your favorite happy song and jam along!

4. What a Wonderful World is a famous song that has been performed by many people over the years. Today, let’s listen to a storybook version that lets you see all the words with illustrations.

After the story is finished, take a listen to the song sung by Louis Armstrong, who was the original performer for this song! He had a wonderful and unique voice. Take note of the instrument he is holding in his hand. Can you name that instrument?

4. Choose a day that has beautiful weather and take a walk with your family. Can you spot some of the images from the song What a Wonderful World? Can you find bright colorful flowers, blue skies, green budding trees, children playing outside? Let’s see how many parts of the song you can see with your family! You probably won’t see people shaking hands right now, but do you see anyone smiling or waving to say hello instead? Enjoy the nice weather and look for ways that the world is beautiful!

5. Bonus activity: Draw a picture of the beautiful things that you saw while on a walk with your family. Listening to What a Wonderful World might help spark your creativity while you draw! I would love to see examples of your artwork if any parents would like to take a picture and share it with me. With your permission, I will gather pictures together and share them with the Seth G. Haley PTA facebook page! (I will only do this if you send a picture with permission to share. If you would like to share a picture without it being posted anywhere else I completely understand and would still love to see it!)

2. Let’s make some music with found percussion instruments! With the help of an adult, look for something that can be banged, rattled, shaken or tapped to make sound. Maybe you will turn over a pot and use a wooden spoon as a mallet, maybe you have something that can make the same sound as a maraca, or maybe you even have a drum at home! Put on your favorite happy song and jam along!

    1. Ask an adult what their favorite happy song is and jam along together!

    2. Focus on finding the steady beat and then on creating some fun rhythms to match from the music!

3.What a Wonderful World is a famous song that has been performed by many people over the years. Today, let’s listen to a storybook version that lets you see all the words with illustrations.
