What Makes a Good Teacher (From the Perspective of a Student)

By: Suri Nguyen

I think one of the things that makes a good teacher is their communication abilities. I think for a teacher it's important for them to be able to communicate clearly to their students to get certain points across.

Another thing that I think makes a good teacher is their patience. It's important for a teacher to have patience to help their students learn and grow.

For a teacher, it's important for them to teach, but they should also have the ability to listen to the students / other adults. It's important for students to feel heard as well.

A teacher should be kind / empathetic . If a teacher is empathetic the student feels important and understood, making the bond between teacher and student stronger.

A good teacher should also be resilient and have an open mindset. During a teacher's teaching career there will be obstacles, so it's important for a teacher to bounce back and try again .

Being a teacher is a hard job and students should respect them and be open minded to learn, too.

Hoof In a Time (Short Story)

Once there was this cool kid. This cool kid had a cool club in TEMS. He was reading the cool kids newspaper: The Cougar Current, when he got an idea. Instead of watching Garfield that day, he tried out for lacrosse, but he failed. He made this awful game called Hoof in a Time. It was so dumb that it got published in the newspaper and everyone bought it and he got rich and famous. He gave all the credit to Garfeild. SLAY GARFIELD!

We would like to share that we will be starting to take statements and you will have a chance to have your statement chosen. If your statement is chosen, you can say ‘no’ for it to be in the article and also change whether or not you want to be anonymous within an email. For example, here’s some statements on what people thought about the dance:

“It was a fun and hilarious night with friends, I really liked it.” - Gia Arora

“The dance was really fun, but I wish that there were more things to do. There were tattoos but that was about it.” - Anonymous

“I think going to the dance was worth it because the way that it was planned was very good and organized, and there were many fun things to do.” - Anonymous

“I really liked the music and the photo booth. Also the tattoos stayed on for longer than expected. It was a really good time.” - Anonymous

Personally, I thought the dance was marvelous. I agree with all of the statements. It was intriguing. I do believe that there could’ve been more to the eye, for the dance didn’t contain many features. The quality wasn’t the best that you’ll find in a thousand lifetimes, but it’ll hold lots of dear memories of your middle school years. Thank you to all staff and teachers who participated in helping us build such a remarkable school. I hope you’ll find yourself thinking back to the moments and cherishing them with your heart.

Maybe you’re entering high-school, 8th grade, or 7th grade. Just know you’ve made it so far.

Keep going.
