A Note to Parents:
Welcome to Distance Learning for Westhill Music! We hope you will find these instructional suggestions helpful as we enter a new territory for remote learning. We acknowledge that nothing can take the place of in-person, real-time music making with others, but we hope that some of these experiences can further musical growth and thinking in your students.
Here you will find lessons for each grade level. There will be 1 lesson posted each week.
Each lesson should take approximately 25 minutes to complete.
You are welcome to do the posted lesson during the first 20 minutes of your scheduled music session or at another time during the week. Repeating the lesson is always a good idea!
We will have a Zoom check-in the last 10 minutes of each class period. Please ask your classroom teacher for the Zoom code or check your Google Classroom under Specialists.
If you desire extra experiences, please visit the Enrichment page or the Useful Links page.
Don't forget to fill out and send the Google Form at the end of each lesson!
For this round of Distance Learning, we will follow a similar format to round one. We call it Flipped Classroom. We will be posting 1 lesson each week for each grade level on the Westhill Music Google Site. The lesson will be posted the same day as their scheduled music time. Lessons are meant to be no longer than 20 minutes. On your student's scheduled specialist block, your student can do the posted lesson, self-directed, in the first 20 minutes. Kindergarten and 1st graders may need some assistance in reading the directions. (You could also do the lesson at a later time as well; lessons will be self-directed with both online content, prerecorded content, and perhaps some written content). We will then have a 10 minute Zoom check-in time with students at the end of the class session. Students can ask questions about the content, teachers may ask some clarifying questions, etc. Zoom meetings also give us a chance to have some social contact with our students; WE ARE MISSING YOU SO MUCH!
For example: If your student was scheduled for Music on Monday at 1:00-1:30pm. From 1:00-1:20pm student can access the lesson on the Westhill Music Google Site. At 1:20 student would sign in to the Zoom meeting with any questions or concerns about the lesson. The Zoom meeting code will be sent out via your classroom teacher. If your student is unable to access our meetings at that time, questions/concerns can be sent via email to their music teacher.
We also encourage students to revisit the week's lesson more than once. Repetition is a great learning tool for music skills!
Should you want more enrichment ideas, please see the Enrichment page. We also have many great links to other resources under the Useful Links tab.
Please be sure to fill out the Google Form at the end of each lesson. This will help us understand who is accessing the content and give us the ability to give feedback to students via their Google district mail account.
A note about videos: We hope that our video sharing technique brings the least amount of advertising possible. We use a safe link through Safeyoutube.net. Please let us know if the links are not working for you.
