5th
grade music continues to explore the five main music concepts: rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and tone color. Your students will broaden their rhythmic understanding with the playing and reading of more complex rhythms and will even get the opportunity to learn how to conduct in the meter of 4. Their vocal repertoire will continue to expand and they will begin to recognize harmonies within music including the I and the V chord. Your child will learn to listen for Theme and Variations in recorded music and to follow a piece that has first and second endings. One of the most exciting parts of 5th grade music is learning to play the guitar! Westhill
is fortunate to have a class set of guitars and the guitar unit is always a fun and challenging part of the year. Your child is also able to join the elementary band program, where they can learn to play a variety of band instruments.
