Dear Incoming Undergraduate Student,
Welcome to Antioch! We are excited for you to join our community of learners and look forward to seeing you at our New Student Orientation on Wednesday, September 10 at 5:00pm via Zoom. Antioch University has a unique place in American higher education, with a long history of educational innovation and excellence, as well as a commitment to social justice and creating community. We recently celebrated 50 years in Los Angeles, and we look forward to what we can accomplish next with you!
If you haven't already, please RSVP for this orientation session through Audrey Mandelbaum (amandelbaum@antioch.edu). You will receive the Zoom link when you RSVP.
At orientation, you’ll have an opportunity to meet program staff and faculty who teach and advise in the program. Do take advantage of the opportunity to work closely with your faculty, whose academic and professional expertise and keen interest in your success will help you progress through your educational journey here at Antioch and beyond.
You’ve already received information on the Fall schedule and degree requirements, and, which includes a blend of “remote” and on-campus classes. If you’re interested in remote classes, you’ll find many options delivered in real time via Zoom, enhanced by online forums and activities. Students tell us that these interactive courses are both convenient and engaging as they connect with faculty and other students from Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Seattle campuses.
You might also want to choose from five courses offered in a hybrid format, noted on the schedule as "in-person/simul-teaching." These classes alternate between in-person sessions held on our Culver City campus, and Zoom sessions. You’ll find these provide you with a wonderful opportunity to connect in person with faculty, staff, and other students, who share your passion for values-driven learning. When you’re here, you can study in the library or computer lab, and enjoy our lovely courtyard with its adjacent café. A few rooms are also available if you want to Zoom into your other classes before/after your in-person class. Let us know if you’d like a tour to check things out!
As you choose your courses throughout your time at Antioch, do consider some of the really special offerings that make our program unique. Our interdisciplinary curriculum and flexible degree requirements mean that you can choose many elective courses that will broaden and complement your area of focus. You will find classes you won’t see elsewhere with highly accomplished professionals who are passionate about what they teach! You’ll also have opportunities to engage in internships and earn credit for prior learning you may have done in work, volunteer, or personal settings, so talk to your advisor about these options too.
We look forward to seeing you at orientation to help you start this next step in your academic journey. This is an important time for us all to explore new vistas, think critically and creatively, and challenge assumptions, so thank you for engaging in those pursuits with us.
Best,
MeHee Hyun, Ph.D.
