Applied Studies Degree Requirements – Students who entered '25-'26

The requirements described on this page apply if you're enrolled in any of the four Applied Studies Degree programs listed below and started at Antioch in the Academic Year '25-'26 (all majors): Summer '25, Fall '25, Winter '26, or Spring '26.

• BA in Applied Studies

• BA in Applied Arts & Media

• BS in Applied Technology & Business Leadership

• BAA in Urban Communities & Justice

General overview:

• Minimum 24 semester/36 quarter units in transfer (at least 27 of these related to the major)

• 180 – 200 quarter units total (earned at AULA and transferred in)

• 45 units minimum of residency at Antioch

• 60 units minimum of upper division units (3000- and 4000-level courses). Students can do more than 60 upper division, just not less. All AULA courses are upper division with the exception of ENG 2510 Academic Writing Mentorship.

• Students can take/transfer a maximum of 120 total lower division units (100- and 200-level courses at most schools).

Antioch core requirements – 15 quarter units

• EDU 3600 Transformative Education (3 quarter units)

• Two Antioch academic writing courses: one 3000-level and one 4000-level, with the possible addition of WRT-2510 Academic Writing mentorship (6 quarter units, or 7 units if you take WRT-2510)

• Two Mission Core electives (6 quarter units). See below for a list of options for meeting this requirement. Each quarter's schedule will include 2 or 3 Mission Core options.

Domains of knowledge (i.e. general education) requirement – 30 quarter units

30 quarter units with the minimums described below. These units can be transferred in, taken at Antioch, or a combination.

•         Communications - 3 units

•         Fine Arts - 6 units

•         Humanities - 6 units

•         Physical Sciences - 6 units

•         Quantitative Methods - 3 units

•         Social Sciences - 6 units

Major requirements – 54 quarter units:

• 27 transfer units in specific focus area

• 27 upper division units including:

  • • • 9 units (3 courses) of Professional Competency Courses. 

Choose from: Leadership; Group Dynamics; Culture in Community and Professional Contexts; Technology, Self, & Society; Media Influence & Society; Public Speaking; Intercultural Communication, and Professional Writing.

• • • • 9 units (3 courses) of Major Core Courses selected from the list attached below. Be sure to search for the list under your particular degree program, as each program has its own list.

      • 6 units of Non-classroom Learning (Internships and/or Prior Learning) related to your degree program/major.

      • A 3-unit Capstone Internship or class: either LIB-4610, the "Capstone-ship," or a Capstone-focused class like LIB-4600 Capstone Service Learning or LIB-4450 Senior Synthesis Seminar.
