Summer Courses allow Secondary School students to expand their elective options during the school year. By completing two courses during the summer, students fulfill the unique requirements of the Bachillerato en Ciencias y Letras (national diploma). Each course is a condensed 40-hour program completed over 4 weeks.

Each course listed is equivalent to a semester-long course. The courses are paired to allow students to engage in a year's worth of credit. Each course of 0.50 Credits = US$ 350

Geografía II (0.5 credit) Rising 8th graders: This course is conducted in Spanish. The course explores the vast and varied land assets, population trends and economic activities related to natural resources across the Americas. Students will develop and demonstrate geographical reasoning skills and will deepen their exposure to human geography.
Historia II (0.5 credit) Rising 8th graders: This course is conducted in Spanish. This course constructs a timeline, highlighting those commonalities and differences across the Americas, beginning with the rich legacy of indigenous societies through the nationalist tendencies of the late 20th century. Students will develop and demonstrate historical thinking skills and an understanding of civic participation across these contexts.
Geografía III (0.5 credit) Rising 9th graders (prerequisite: Geografia & Historia II): This is the third level of Geography in which students deepen their geographical reasoning with respect to Nicaragua’s location and resources. Issues of resource conservation and consequences of economic activities offer students an introduction to human geography within this particular context.
Cívica III (0.5 credit) Rising 9th graders (prerequisite: None) : This course is conducted in Spanish. Civics III focuses on the following national curriculum standards (as translated from Spanish): Our National Identity, our Magna Carta, Road Safety, Responsible Consumption and Tax Payment, My Rights and Responsibilities and Constructing our Democracy.
Sociología (0.5 credit) Rising 10th-12th graders: This course is taught in Spanish.
This course offers an in-depth analysis and understanding of the origin and development of Sociology, its scientific significance, and the contributions made by its leading thinkers. It encourages reflection on the importance of social structure and its various manifestations. Subsequently, the course involves a comparative study of the evolution of societies throughout history. Finally, it focuses on the study of Nicaraguan national culture and politics, promoting actions that strengthen and celebrate cultural identity, foster respect for the diversity of social groups, and contribute to a greater understanding of the political system and the role of state institutions.
Filosofía (0.5 credit) Rising 10th-12th graders: This course is taught in Spanish.
This course introduces students to philosophical thinking and knowledge, emphasizing Philosophy’s liberating role in fostering a deeper understanding of reality — thereby empowering them to identify and solve problems in their daily lives. Students reflect upon and critically analyze the various fields and areas of philosophical study, starting from their own understanding of reality. Subsequently, the course guides them in applying philosophical reasoning and the scientific method to acquire new knowledge and address a range of everyday situations. Finally, it focuses on responsible behaviors and actions related to ethical, moral, and aesthetic issues, contributing to the improvement of their personal, family, and community life.
Photography (0.5 credit) Rising 8th-12th graders: Students will learn the basics of photography, which include: using multiple angles and composition techniques, editing and gaining a clear understanding of the pre-production and post-production process in photography. Engaging in photography through a distance-based cohort will create the opportunity to share our spaces, views and perspectives from afar and create a sense of connection through art.
Film (0.5 credit) Rising 8th-12th graders: They will learn the basics of filmmaking, which include: scripting/storyboarding, using multiple angles and composition techniques, editing and gaining a clear understanding of the pre-production and post-production process in movie making. Engaging in filmmaking through a distance-based cohort will create the opportunity to share our stories, views and perspectives from afar and create a sense of connection through a dynamic medium.
