Physical Education Program

ANS Physical Education is at the forefront of our drive to have a healthy, happy, and active community – students of all ages who are physically and health literate. PE is part of the school-wide wellness program fostering active lifestyles and healthy choices.

Primary School

With this goal in mind, Primary and Pathways students have PE every single day and wear their PE uniform to school daily!

For students in PK3 & PK4 (Pathways) the PE Program is based on a variety of Gymnastics/Rhythm/Dance skills in a wide range of modified games with the purpose of developing dexterity, balance, and flexibility.

During PE classes, primary school students work on the basic skills and practice of ‘major sports’ to achieve movement competence and to meet international standards regarding physical skills and movement competencies that a child should dominate at any given age. A variety of activities such as: Track and Field, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, Badminton, Flag Football, Table Tennis, and Chess are used to help students reach these standards.

Swimming is an important part of the ANS PE curriculum for Primary School. Students have swimming classes in a 4-week block interchanging with regular PE for Kinder - 5th grade students. This focus on swimming means every ANS student masters freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.

Secondary School

Secondary School students have 3 hours a week of Physical Education plus the opportunity for active options on Wednesdays in our Flex Day initiative. Students may choose swimming instead of regular PE to allow them to continue with this discipline after 5thgrade.

In addition to the above, we offer students from 8th grade and above specialized classes where they  can use time in their schedule for PE to dedicate themselves to one activity, focusing just on their chosen sport. This initiative is known as the “Athletic Period” and is primarily for those students who form part of our varsity school sports teams. Soccer, swimming, track & field, volleyball, and basketball are options within this program.

ANS is proud to offer a diverse and inclusive Physical Education program that is in harmony with the school mission, revolves around our core values, and that helps our student body to be happy, healthy, and active, learning lessons and acquiring skills and principles that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.
