Pre-K3 Curriculum
Pre-K3 Curriculum
Here’s a look at what we do in Pre-K3! We are learning through play and developing our social skills. We begin to understand the structure of school and routines of a classroom.
Most of learning time takes place through centers. Centers include dramatic play, science/ math, reading, art, and fine motor skills. However, each day begins with free play in a variety of learning centers in the classroom. These learning centers are a key part of preschool experience.
Our classroom is a very busy place filled with learning activities. We grow so much!
STREAM in Pre-K3
Pre-K3 is mostly a time to play and to explore. STREAM activities mostly focus on creativity, curiosity, and basic concepts in math and science.
The following skill sets are developed in Pre-K3:
Creativity Curiosity
Creates art or structures Shows interest in new things
Displays and uses imagination Asks questions about lesson topic
Engages in pretend play
Scientific Method Engineering Design Process
Makes observations Follows instructions
Works with available materials
Examples of STREAM Activities and Projects
Thinking Caps: Students learn about "thoughts" and draw their thoughts on a paper plate. What would a thought look like? The paper plate is then converted in a cap that is placed on top of paper cut-outs of themselves or as to wear as a hat.
Focus: Creativity, science, and art
Transportation Creations: As a class, students decorate a large box using glue and construction paper to make a form of transportation. We have made buses and trains! Students then pretend to "drive" the transportation creations!
Focus: Engineering Design Process
The Five Senses: Learning to make observations about different foods with our five senses. Exploring new tastes and textures.
Focus: Curiosity and science
Is it Alive?: Students look at the world around them. Some things are alive and some things are not. They explore this by looking at different objects and different creatures in their classroom and around the school.
Focus: Making observations
Not a Box: Based on the book, "Not a Box" by Antoinette Portis, students think of different ways to use a box.
Focus: Engineering Design Process and creativity
Shape Houses: Students learn about the different shapes and how they are used when building a house.
Focus: Making observations, math and art
