Professional staff members implement high quality STEM courses and curriculum to recognized standards and organized into interdisciplinary frameworks.
The STREAM curriculum at ACS uses a combination of the Diocese of Jackson standards, Next Generation of Science Standards (NGSS) for Engineering, and the Mississippi Department of Education standards for art, technology, and career readiness.
STREAM activities and projects are initially based in science, math, or engineering standards and are expanded to include other subjects such as art, technology, religion, or social studies. PreK3-2nd grade focuses on developing and practicing STREAM skills with hands-on activities or short-term projects. STREAM lessons are focused on creativity, curiosity, engineering basics, and understanding the purpose and goal of a science experiment. STREAM then transitions to more project-based lessons for 3rd-8th grades. However, there are still opportunities for students to practice skills they learned in lower elementary but at a more advanced level. STREAM also expands to include emphasis on communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students engage in all steps of the engineering process and conduct a wide range of science experiments and data collection. Teachers seek out opportunities with outside agencies to pursue real-world projects, expertise, STEM materials, and data analysis.
