Initial Ideations:
In this phase, I curated three initial ideas as a starting point for this project. Each idea includes a narrative, word equation, truth table, logic diagram and images describing the intended purposes and technical framework.
Idea #1. Body Temperature Detector:
Idea Narrative:
This idea is more personal but, at the same time, can be applied to a broader audience. People feel cold because their body temperature is below the normal range; therefore, they feel cold. Sometimes, the source of this feeling is not necessarily about the environment being cold itself but how our bodies are currently reacting to certain conditions. For example, being sick, hungry, and sad can make one feel cold. I want to make a device that can detect a person’s body temperature and then determine if this person’s core temperature (low/high). If low received, the device will display texts on an LCD screen that probes more into the person’s current situation, such as asking, “Are you sick?”. The device will have a few questions in its system; depending on the input variation (or answers) a user makes, it will give some final texts.

Idea #2. Do I Bring Umbrella Device
Idea Narrative:
This idea is inspired by the question raised during class about whether or not to bring an umbrella out. Instead of inputting everything by the user (i.e., Is it raining today? Are you going outside today?), I will use a light sensor to detect clouds (I will use my hands as clouds) and potentially use an air pressure sensor to detect humidity in the air. (The higher the humidity, the lower the pressure). Still figuring out the air pressure part, I might change it to a manual input since the sensor could easily meddle with air movements. The device will gather the information and user input to determine if an umbrella is necessary, which will be displayed on an LCD screen. Or it could be an opacity LCD, so if an umbrella is needed, it will turn dark, signaling a rainy day.

(Humid Out OR Dim Out) AND (Going Out) = Bring Umbrella

Idea #3. Funny Calculator:
Idea Narrative:
I think we as a society in the first world countries have become inseparable from our technologies and computers, for better or worse. I believe the best of humans is what we can do without technology, what we can do with our bare hands and brain. This piece, in my opinion, is a critique of our reliance on modern technology. A calculator is the first form of computer, handling calculations for computers (humans). And over time, we delegated so much task to it, and we will one day become inept and just take it as it is. This piece is for people to realize blindly trusting technology is a mistake.
