Exploration of making lo-fi representation of devices and Petra and I simulating exploring different colors.
Overall questions to help find what the operationalized metaphor is of my project and understand why I'm computing what I am?
Colorized?
What you have done so far?
Currently have connected a color sensor to the arduino and am messing around with mapping the values differently/defining standard ways to perceive color. The process has mainly been localized on the input side, meaning I haven't used them for an output yet. Ultimately I want to connect this to an LED and haptic coins for another response to color.
What is giving trouble?
The biggest thing is conceptual backing/what is my analog computer? I understand that there needs to be an operationalized metaphor, and my project allows for this metaphor of perceiving the world (of color – visuals) through a haptic lens. However, the output feels very "one and done" and I want there to be a level of exploration and communication occurring between people and ultimately a system of devices. What is the clever output? What is the goal? Does the device also take in your skin color and you're finding your skin pantone in some composition? Do you only get feedback based on things that are your skin color?
What is your plan going forward?
1) Hash out concept: there is a route of a more illustrative world building composition and this device is a tool to navigate through it/characters to bring the drawing to life. There is another route of a co-creation experience where people can draw on this long paper and these devices can react to them. Or there is a more social commentary route of skin color and exploring what it means to quantify race.
2) Device System: Understand what are my outputs and what the collaborative experience is. I want this to be something where people can affect the output. Is this through drawing (something that allows creation) or something that is set (like their skin-color).
From there, I want to explore with materiality and method of doing so – in contrast to last project which highlighted laser cutting, I want to use this as a chance to explore more 3D printing and make use of my rhino modelling skills.
