This project is short and sweet, hopefully to get people to cook more and think more about their relationship with food and how it affects their day. Through answering two questions, the device will print a short recipe for the user using a thermo-printer for the next time they’re experiencing the same conditions as they are when they used the device. I feel like this could be a cool little device in front of a farmer’s market stall or gourmet grocery. Anyone can use the device, but I hope that younger college-aged people will find joy in it, seeing as it’s a time for them to learn about themselves and establish new food-related rituals. While this project doesn’t relate to my practice in UX, it is incredibly important to my personal interests and passions around cooking, food, and its relationship to people.
This little device gives stickers to people who agree with my opinions. There are two buttons at the top and an lcd screen which displays a 'this or that' question. If the user chooses two options that correspond with my preference, they will get a sticker. This project is silly and points to how arbitrary 'liking' someone can be, and how having small opinions can change the trajectory of your interaction with someone significantly. I imagine it could be a cool thing to have if you do ScottyCon or any other convention, since it allows the user to bond a little with the owner.
This installation challenges people to sort common concepts and items into a gender binary. Starting off with simple images of traditionally masculine and feminine people or objects, the user is confronted with images of science, money, and family, or benign items like a pencil or phone or q-tips. This installation is meant to be a lighthearted challenge to the traditional gender binary, hopefully allowing people to analyze their own pre-conceived notions or how their biases associated with gender tie into other biases like race, age, color, class, etc. The installation will use a pedestal with two buttons, one labeled boy and one labeled girl. There will be a projector at the foot of the pedestal projecting on a surface with pictures, and the slideshow will advance as the buttons are pressed.
